News from C.A.T.S

Hospitals in the Morecambe Bay have recently changed the ranges that are used for our Thyroid blood tests. This has resulted in a small number of patients having to reduce their dose of Thyoxine, because they are now over-medicated. In the past C.A.T.S recommended that patients should try to get their FT4 levels around 15 and the TSH levels around 1.5.This indicated that your Thyroid was well balanced

Unfortunately this advice is now incorrect and i will be issuing new guidelines shortly. Meanwhile i have received a number of phone calls from patients who are not well on the lower dose. So if you have been affected this way please can you get in touch with me.

The new ranges are TSH (0.57 -3.60) and FT4 (7.9 – 14)
